OSTRICH offers a micro environment in which to take a warm and comfortable power nap at ease. It is neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time. Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.

One of my favorite Internet entrepreneur has just started a new company after leaving Digg a few weeks ago. Milk will be a small elite team of developers, designers and thinkers that will set out to takel BIG mobile web problems. Rather than trying to startup a bunch of small companies, they are going to take on projects that have more depth to them and see what sticks canceling projects along the way that don’t get the results they are looking for. With Rose at the head of the company, I feel confident that they are going to create some cool stuff. I can’t wait to see what the Rose-Burka duo come up with this time. :D

My new obsession lately has been a rather old series called Fullmetal Alchemist. I found the show while stumbling around my Netflix instant queue. The cover was interesting enough and although I’m not a huge fan of anime, this looked different somehow. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. This is a GREAT series! It immediately sucked me in and I’ve been craving episodes ever since.

[The Elric brothers, Edward (left) and Alphonse (right), spar on occasion to hone their fighting skills.]

Fullmetal Alchemist is the story of two “highly gifted” brothers and their mission to get their bodies back. That’s right, their bodies were taken away from them when they tried to use Alchemy (the science of deconstructing and reconstructing matter) to try and resurrect their late mother. The “transmutation” of humans is a taboo in their land and they find out just how dangerous it can be when their transmutation goes horribly wrong and their own bodies are deconstructed. Check out the short clip from episode 1 at the end of this post.

I think that if you give the show a shot you will really enjoy it. This is by no means a “childrens” show. This thing has some serious language as well as graphic content. I wouldn’t say it’s overboard, but it isn’t something I would let kids watch. The story alone is one that you normally would’t see in an animation. Although the world the show is based in is a bit foggy at first…there is a lot of character development that helps you fill in the gaps along the way.

I started watching Fullmetal Alchemist on the second series called Brotherhood. There is also a series simply called Fullmetal Alchemist that was created first. I plan on watching that series next however, I feel like Brotherhood gives you a lot of the backstory, similar to how DBZ explains the original Dragon Ball. Learn more on the wiki.

If you want to give it a shot. Look it up on Netflix or watch the first 4 episodes of the Brotherhood series for FREE on the official website.

Rdio is absolutely my new drug. I’ve become addicted to searching out new music and adding it to my “collection”. I’ve always been a big fan of getting rid of stuff. After 2005 sometime I started getting rid of all the junk that sat around me. I became a fan of limiting the things I owned in exchange for the freedom of renting. Renting isn’t exactly the best word here, but it will do. Perhaps subscription is a better word. However, I think what is happening here is something entirely different.

There have been many different types of renting/subscription models through the years when it comes to different types of goods/services. I believe we are entering a new evolution of these models in which we are able to subscribe to just about anything. I like the feeling of subscribing all together. You really feel connected to a product/service when you subscribe.

Although some may sudder at the fact that they don’t own their content anymore, I for one am happy to have all this free space on my hard drive. :)

There is a lot more to say about Rdio. Let me go over a few things quickly.

First off, Rdio really took my notice when they released their native OSX app recently. Although the app is nothing more than a frame around their webapp, they have added support for Apple keyboard hotkeys as well as Growl. These two things alone really make the app stand out.

Last but certainly not least…the Rdio iPhone app has been the kicker for me. I like to listen to music in my car and when I travel mostly. This past year I have been in airports a lot. This inevitably leads to lack of internet due to being 35,000 feet in the air with super expensive/no wifi.

The ability to add music to your phone over the air then download that music to your phone with the ability to use offline mode in times that you are without the Internet is insanely amazing. Rdio makes this process insanely easy as well as a joy to use.

Rdio has completely changed how I find/listen to music. Allowing me to see what all my friends are listening to has been incredible, especially when I’m in the mood for something fresh. The ability to collaborate on playlist with friends or the Rdio community is a plus as well. It’s fun to see what kind of awesome playlists you can come up with between you and a couple buddies.

In my book, Rdio is well worth the $10/month. Try out their free 7 day trial now. What do you have to lose?

I need cooler glasses.

I need cooler glasses.

Download Hemolog now on the app store.

Download Hemolog now on the app store.
