Friday App Review

The Friday App Review will be a quick review of iPhone apps I find throughout the week that I think are worth your time. So listen up and hold on tight.

Cut the Rope

After playing games like Cut the Rope, I wish big time developers would stop try to port their console games and learn from the little guys. Cut the Rope is a prime example of the type of game that was MADE for the iPhone. And boy is it polished. Right off the top, I’m going list this as one of my top 5 games in the AppStore.

cut the rope screenshotCut the Rope is a simple puzzle game that becomes quite complex after the first “box” (world). The goal is to get the piece of candy to your little green friend who was dropped on your doorstep in a box. The story is a bit unclear as to why you need to feed him candy and why he stays in the box, but this is a game not a story, so who really cares why your doing it, IT’S FUN!

Cut the Rope comes from the iOS gaming giant Chillingo, who also distributes other great titles like Angry Birds, Knights Onrush, Toki Tori, The Hero and Mini Gore just to name a few.

download on the app store

But don’t take my word for it. According to Chillingo, Cut the Rope has been downloaded over 1 million times 10 days after launch.

Cut the Rope is available for $0.99 or if you would like to try before you buy, there is a lite version as well.

I give this one 5 out of 5!

2 more apps you don’t want to miss after the break.

The Incident

The Incident from Big Bucket Software is another great example of a game that was MADE for the iPhone. The controls feel so natural because they were completely created with the iPhone in mind. And the gameplay works well, because of it’s simplicity. Frank jumpingMove and jump, that’s all you have to do. Playing the part of Frank, you need to run and jump left and right to get out of the way of falling objects. The true objective of the game is to reach the top of this pill of stuff and find out what is causing it to fall down on you.

appstoreNot only will you love the game but the music is very catchy too. Very 8-bit inspired just like the graphics.

I give this one 4 out of 5!

Evac

Evac isn’t out quite yet, but will be on the AppStore soon. It looks to me like a PacMan inspired puzzler that features multiple powers and get this, you can go through walls. I don’t know much about this app yet but you can watch the video for yourself and get a better idea of the game play.

I love to see games like are inspired by the old classics, really gives these great games some new perspective and can really work well if done right.

I will be sure to post more information when it becomes available.
