The Giving Tree

The elves over at MacHeist have done it again. More FREE Apple software. They started with free Mac apps, now iPhone apps as well. Head over to The Giving Tree and check out all the goodies that are available. You can watch iPhone apps "grow" on the tree and once they are big enough, they will begin to wiggle, just like they do on your iPhone! Once they start wiggling, click on them and you will be entered into a drawing for a full version of that app for free. You have to click quick, they only wiggle for about 4-5 seconds. You will be notified wether you won within a few seconds.

All the fun started last night at midnight, so I'm guessing this is a Christmas Eve event, but what a fun one it is. Keep me posted if you win any apps. I won Mr. Sudoku (App Store link) last night on my third try!

iPhone: Pop & Touch Grind

Pop looks to be a simple yet addictive addition to the App Store. I have yet to play it myself but TUAW made a great video demo of Pop which you can check out on Youtube. To learn more about Pop visit the creators at Nnooo.com. At $4.99 however, the game is a bit pricy. If I were you I would wait until Christmas, I have a feeling a lot of apps are going to make some major price cuts to break into the App Store top 10 list.

Also, my new favorite iPhone App/Game is Touch Grind by Illusion Labs. This game takes the idea of the old finger boards and created a very polished iPhone app. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of a few simple finger gestures you will be tricking around the park with style. Individual tricks are fairly simple, but I have had some trouble pulling off combos.

I stumbled upon this game last week when I was surfing around the popular Mac design forum Macthemes2.net. I found a thread that teased being able to create your own skateboard designs and applying them to the game. What a cool addition. However I soon realized that you must have a Jailbroken iPhone/iTouch to do so. This is a feature that has already been suggested to the developers and hopefully will be integrated in a update down the road. Touch Grind (App Store Link) is also currently $4.99 so you may want to hold off for a bit.
